If you’re a fan of hearty, rich pasta dishes, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything that beats a classic Bolognese. This dish has been enjoyed for centuries, and it’s not hard to see (or taste) why. It’s savory and full of flavor, and it sure to be a hit at your dinner table.

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery sticks, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 200g mince beef
  • 200g mince pork
  • 2x400g cans of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • generous pinch of salt and pepper
  • 400g of your favorite pasta
  • Freshly grated Parmesan, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Start by heating a bit of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic until they’re softened and the onions are translucent.

  2. Add the mince beef and pork to the pan. Cook it until it’s nicely browned, then add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and season with salt and pepper. Turn down the heat and let it simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally. This slow cooking process will allow the flavors to meld together and will result in a rich, thick sauce.

  3. About 20 minutes before you’re ready to eat, cook your pasta according to the package instructions. Once it’s done, drain it and set it aside.

  4. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked pasta. You can mix it together or keep them separate, depending on your preference.

  5. Finally, top each serving with a generous dusting of freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

And there you have it. A plate of comforting, hearty, and utterly delicious homemade Bolognese pasta. This recipe easily serves four. So, whether you’re cooking it for a family dinner, a romantic date night, or just so you have some incredible leftovers in the fridge, you can’t go wrong with a classic like this.

Remember, the key to a great Bolognese sauce is patience. Don’t rush it, let it simmer, and trust that the time you put into it will result in a seriously tasty meal. Bon Appétit!
